-In order to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking, coat the surface with mink oil or neatsfoot oil before storing them away for extended periods of time.

What types of shoe creams/treatments should I use?

-Shoe cream. We can go on and on about the wonders of shoe cream but basically it's a product that is comprised of a mixture of polyricinoleate, polymethacrylate, stearic acid and hydrogenated lanolin. When applied to the leather surface, it nourishes the leather and allows it to remain supple. [So what are they talking about?] Polyricinoleate is derived from soy oil and its function is improve the quality of the leather so that it becomes more supple. Stearic acid has similar effects as lanolin. Hydrogenated lanolin is used to make the products more durable or waterproof.

Although shoe creams are superior in providing the best results because they allow you to be selective in treating your shoes and they're frequently less expensive than leather conditioners, you might consider a leather treatment if you have very old shoes that are prone to cracking.

There are many types of leather conditioners, but what type should I choose?

-To maintain the suppleness of your leather, we would recommend that you pick up a product which contains polyricinoleate; this will give the finish of your shoes an oil like appearance and will keep them supple for much longer periods.

-If you want to restore the color of your shoes, you will need a leather restoration product. This would typically be something that restores the dye to your shoes instead of giving it an oil like appearance.

-Apply a small amount of cream or conditioner and rub it in gently until it is fully absorbed. Using too much will result in excess product and a greasy mess.

-Repeat the application process three times per week.

What can I use to apply shoe cream/leather conditioner?

-Shoes require more attention than IKEA furniture, so make sure that you are careful in the application of your products. If you know how to use it and follow the instructions, there is no reason for things like blisters or rubbing alcohol to result.

-Apply your products with a clean cloth or brush as directed. We don't recommend using a credit card.

-Rodents such as mice and rats can eat through leather unless it has been properly treated or coated to prevent them from doing so.
